Temple Beth Shalom brings together Jews from Putnam,
Northern Westchester and Southern Dutchess counties to worship and celebrate, be
educated and be entertained.
Since 1953, when a visionary group of Jewish men and
women gathered to organize a house of worship, Temple Beth Shalom has been an
important part of the mid-Hudson Valley.
On July Fourth Weekend in 1958, those organizers saw
their dream fulfilled when dedication ceremonies were held.
That weekend has come to typify the diversity of
activities Temple Beth Shalom offers. Friday night and Saturday worship services
were followed by a youth dance Saturday evening. On Sunday, July 5th, the
congregation and guests attended a dedication dinner featuring a string ensemble
and celebrity performers Molly Picon and her husband Jacob Kalich. The singing
of the national anthem and Hatikvah, addresses by Jewish scholars, and a toast
with imported Israeli wine not only set the stage for a fun-filled evening, but
set the tone for decades of gatherings that have ensued.
Temple Beth Shalom continues to reach out to both the Jewish community and the
community as a whole.
